Overview:
The course contains over 50 bunkers and water comes into play on 8 holes. In spite of these facts and the dauntingly narrow bluegrass fairways, the well maintained bluegrass / rye / fescue rough doesn't penalize you for not-so-perfect shots, allowing you to shoot some pretty decent scores even when you don't hit a fairway.
Unlike most golf courses, Pine Knot starts you off with 2 par-5's which affords you the luxury of being able to shoot par in spite of making some errant shots. As a matter of fact, Brent Keating, the Director of Golf at Pine Knot, says that par is still attainable on the first hole even if 4 bad shots are hit! Now, that's how to start off a round of golf considering that you may not be warmed up until you've played a few holes. Consider it a gift from Pine Knot!
